Non-Marine Applications

The JE and the BlazeCut ranges of fire suppression systems are suitable for a wide variety of applications outside marine. They overcome or mitigate many of the issues associated with other types of fire extinguishers, especially the powder type. Full technical information is on the right.

For example, the video showing the Ministry of Defence Royal Dutch Navy Fire Extinguisher Test demonstrates the effectiveness of these extinguishers on hot diesel fires that are allowed to burn for 3 minutes to get really hot. The time for totally extinguishing these ferocious fires is from as little as 8 seconds (for the smallest extinguisher – the JE-50), down to just 4 seconds for the largest (the JE-150).

Our suggestions include:

COMMERCIAL VEHICLE ENGINE COMPARTMENTS

BlazeCut:- 3 and 4 metre lengths. Affixed above the engine, avoiding any spots that naturally get extremely hot (e.g. very near exhaust manifolds).

COMMERCIAL VEHICLE INSIDE THE CAB

JE-100 with the robust mounting brackets. Note that one significant advantage is that your insurance company may accept that these extinguishers do not require an annual inspection, leading to a real cost saving. Unlike powder ones, these do not need to be inverted monthly, and have no pressure to potentially leak away. Check with your insurance - we will gladly provide them with any information we can.

SPORTS / RACING CARS ENGINE COMPARTMENTS

BlazeCut:- 3 and 4 metre lengths. Affixed above the engine, avoiding any spots that naturally get extremely hot (e.g. very near exhaust manifolds). If the engine compartments get very hot, you should test that the Blazecut is not triggered by the heat. Alternatively, use a hand held JE-100. These solutions have the very real advantage that, unlike powder, they should not damage the engine. Clearly, for expensive engines, you should carry out your own tests.

SPORTS / RACING CARS INSIDE THE CAB

JE-100 with the robust, quick-release, mounting brackets.

CONSUMER CARS ENGINE COMPARTMENT

BlazeCut:- 3 and 4 metre lengths. Affixed above the engine, avoiding any spots that naturally get extremely hot (e.g. very near exhaust manifolds).

INSIDE CONSUMER CARS

JE-100 either with the robust mounting brackets (possibly under the passenger seat or in the footwell) or inside an easily reached compartment such as a glove box.

MOTORHOMES and CARAVANETTE ENGINE COMPARTMENTS

BlazeCut:- 3 and 4 metre lengths. Affixed above the engine, avoiding any spots that naturally get extremely hot (e.g. very near exhaust manifolds).

MOTORHOMES – INSIDE

Galley area – JE-100 with the robust mounting brackets. A fire blanket is also recommended. A very large area may require a JE-150, with mounting bracket.

Berths – JE-50 for each berth that is or might be in use, with the included mounting brackets. They should be situated within easy reach.

OFFICES AND OTHER WORKPLACES

The JE range is especially useful where you have much electrical equipment and you want to avoid the corrosive issues with powder fire extinguishers.

In particular, there is a real issue with the discharge of powder fire extinguishers near computers and other electrical or electronic equipment. The powder may get sucked inside such equipment by the fans used to cool them. The powder is corrosive to the electrical connections and could cause such equipment to fail, often intermittently, without warning, and over a long period. The JE range does not suffer from such issues.

Ask us for advice for particular office sizes and layouts. Of course, this should all be discussed with your Health and Safety or Fire officer.

EXHIBITIONS AND EVENTS

Stalls at such events are often, quite correctly, required to have fire extinguishers inside their own stalls. Many stall holder supply powder fire extinguishers which, if discharged, would make a mess of their and others stalls, and could cause concern among the events participants. The mess would be difficult to clear up speedily and safely; and the potentially toxic effects of powder could lead to actions by any participants badly affected.

The JE range is speedier to clear up, as the gas or nano-particles dissipate speedily through natural ventilation, and is generally safer than powder.

We would be happy to discuss any applications with your Health & Safety / Fire officer.

OTHER APPLICATIONS

These could include electrical enclosure, switchboards, fuse boxes, electrical supply sources, audio-visual equipment, computers etc. Ask us for advice.

REGULATIONS

In all cases, you should carefully check any relevant laws or regulations for your application; and consult as necessary with your Health & Safety Officer / Fire Officer.
